My Goals in Englcom (FINAL)

To read, one must be able to write.

Writing is perhaps one of the most important elements in communication.  There is a great power in the written word and that certain “power” is found in writers whose words, skills and passion have the ability to move their readers in a way that could promote change.  In this writing class, my main goal is to become an effective and versatile writer.

To be an effective and versatile writer,  I must be able to motivate my audience to act by expressing my thoughts clearly through my works. If I were to inspire and encourage them to take action, I must be able to write well.  To do that, I must expose my readers to new ideas with the right words that can open their minds to the message I want them to see. In accordance with that, I want to widen my vocabulary in this Englcom writing class.

Like any other goal, it is not enough to just aspire—there must also be action. To fulfill my objectives for this class, one of the things I have to do is to read more.  Through reading, I can expose myself to different writing styles and techniques and expand my vocabulary as well.  I can express clear thoughts by writing cohesively, giving clear ideas, stressing my main points , presenting coherent messages and  by following the right formats and conventions of writing. To inspire my audience, I can use my personal experiences as well as others’ and relate them to my essays.

My goal in this writing class is not totally impossible—it is reachable. To achieve them,I must always keep them in mind whenever I am writing and give effort on doing research about my topics. I recommend my readers to be open minded when they read and to my fellow writers, always think of the audience and how your works may affect them, their lives and their perspectives.

Diagnostic Essay : Two Standards of the Wired World

Like. Share.Retweet.Reblog. Favorite. Tweet. Timeline.Wallpost.--- If you find yourself somewhat confused after reading these words, then I am very sorry to tell you but, you haven't lived well in this time and age.

Eons ago, back when our forefathers and ancient heroes roamed this earth, everything was done manually. They lived a very simple life- a tiring one, yes, but it was not as complicated as it is now. It was the time when mails of any sort were received days after it was sent. Where it is nearly impossible to see someone who lived overseas unless you actually go there and it was the time when studying actually meant digging through those thick dusty books.

Then came the internet and everything changed. Anything and everything can be done in a click of a button. Now, it almost feels like the whole world has been wired. It is now possible to see the busy streets of New York without actually having to go there. It is possible to send an email to someone and have them receive it in just mere seconds. The internet has given us the chance to connect to anything and anybody across the globe.

This "freedom" provided for us can be sometimes misleading in a way that people can also abuse that power of connecting to anyone and use it for the bad rather than for the good. For instance, in social networking sites such as Facebook, information can be displayed publicly. There has been a lot of cases in our country where people use these information to stalk others, blackmail them, and in some situations, take on their identity when they commit a crime.

For students, the more common case is that of internet dependency and plagiarism. Having done a thesis on this particular topic, I have learned that a lot of students, even those with honors, have admittedly been dependent on the internet when doing their school works.

But, despite these cons, the internet still is one of the largest and most helpful resources of today. With it, everything seems possible, everything seems reachable and it only asks of us to be responsible to be able to use it to its fullest. We need to be responsible in using the internet-- in releasing information, in posting our insights and even when adding people as "friends"  because the moment that you do any one of these, there is no turning back, and all that you do, will be in the web atmosphere forever.

A line from a famous movie goes: "With great power comes great responsibility". The internet is that great power and it is our sole responsibility to use it for the good rather than for what is bad. If we do take on that responsibility, the internet can still be that magical haven of possibilities. You just have to choose your side. Good or Evil. It is your call.
